Officer's Greatcoat
Greatcoats came into widespread use during the 1930s, mostly in continental Europe. Variants still exist and they all share a common ostentatious theme. Some greatcoats were leather, others textile. Memory has images of German Nazi and Soviet Russian officials looking imposing wearing some of the most fantastic and extravagant greatcoats ever made. Unquestionably, projecting a message of power was facilitated by these over-the-top overcoats.
Generously cut, the Vanson Officer’s Greatcoat has 46 inches of back length, bringing the bottom of the coat to just above the knee, with a 57-inch bottom hem circumference with the front of the coat closed. Freedom of movement is engineered in with the built-in action back. The waist is slightly fitted and has a 2” wide belt to cinch in the body of the coat. In keeping with full military specifications, the leather collar has a notched lapel design to complete the look.
By any measure, the Vanson Officer’s Greatcoat is imposing. Hand-built rather than simply sewn is the best way to describe this impressive great coat.
